The Characters of Town Historic Walking Tour
Hosted by costumed guides, guests will revisit the history of what was once the Jewel in the British Crown, the wealthiest port city in the Americas and the entry point of all African Slaves entering the British Americas. Guests will learn of the secret trade of Madeira, between Barbados and Portugal, learn of colonists so wealthy, that they had their own colonies, whilst forever shaping the “new world” as we know it today. Along the way guests will also be entertained by the singing minstrel and learn a Bajan folk song or two.
The tour will commence in the Madeira district on Hinks Street and then move onto the Lewis Wickham Board Walk taking in the Slave Gate and The Spirit Bond. The tour will then cross over to Heroes Square and onto Broad Street. From lower Broad Street the tour will finally makes its way to Jubilee Gardens, where guests will be regaled with tales of Rachel Pringle and Price William Henry and take in the sights of St. Mary’s Church.
